Black Lives Matter

The roots of violence and oppression, whether they manifest as intimate partner abuse in the home or racist violence in the street, thrive when power is used to dehumanize others.  Upending violence and oppression can’t happen when only the injured and oppressed protest. Interrupting the pandemic of racist violence in our country demands action by white people, especially white people in power. This is true nationally; it is equally true in our local community.

COVID-19 Update

SPAN began preparing to respond to the COVID-19 crisis and its impact on survivors and SPAN’s services when the reality of the pandemic became apparent in early March. We are immensely grateful for the guidance and support that Boulder County Public Health (BCPH) staff have provided over the past two months. From the early days of planning, BCPH, Boulder County Housing and Human Services, the cities of Boulder and Longmont, homeless services providers, family resource centers, community health clinics, Safe Shelter of St. Vrain Valley, SPAN, the District Attorney’s Office, and other community organizations have worked as true partners in responding to the crisis and its devastating impact on the most vulnerable in our community.

SPAN Silver Linings: Joe

Amidst the craziness of COVID-19, all of us here at SPAN are trying to focus on the silver linings. Our Facilities Specialist, Joe Avila, has been working tirelessly to keep SPAN clients and staff safe. We asked him what has inspired him during this time of crisis.

SPAN Responds to COVID-19

SPAN has implemented additional precautions at our Shelter and Outreach locations to limit the potential spread of the virus. The SPAN 24-hour Crisis & Information Line (303.444.2424) will remain in full operation. The SPAN Emergency Shelter will continue to provide safe refuge for survivors and their children. The Shelter capacity will be reduced to limit the spread of illness.
