All of us at SPAN wish to acknowledge the time and energy that Kim has dedicated to SPAN clients. Kim joined our volunteer team as a Crisis Line volunteer in June 2014 and has been rocking out her volunteer shifts ever since. Amazingly she has given nearly 200 hours of volunteer time in less then one year! Kim always shows up and gets done what needs to be done. Without Kim, we would not have been able to support the residents the way we do. Kim creates a welcoming and comfortable environment for those who are coming into shelter already in crisis.
Miranda, our crisis line volunteer manager caught up with Kim so that we could learn more about her wonderfulness.
- What is your favorite quote? I love quotes but it is difficult for me to pick a favorite. I have a web page with some of my favorite quotes because there are so many that have messages that I have found profound. They can distill complex ideas into elegant snippets. Here is the web page. If I had to pick one, today I might pick this one: “In the long course of history, having people who understand your thought is much greater security than another submarine.” – Senator J. William Fulbright
- If you could witness any past event, present or future what would it be? People living in the cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde near the peak of the occupation there. (I used to work there and wonder how close our current interpretation of life there is to what it was really like.)
- What sound do you love? The sound of a gurgling brook in the woods with wildflowers around.
- What are your strengths? The desire to understand others.
We know that outside of shelter you have your own daily routine and life and it amazes us that you continue to be here for so many. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!!!
