Dear Friends,
“I didn’t tell anyone what I was going through. I was ashamed and scared.”
Leaha’s husband tracked her down the first time she fled. This time would be different. With her three children, her dog, and all the belongings she could quickly gather, she drove across the country escaping ten years of abuse, and arrived in Colorado.
“I was finally seen and believed. I was safe.”
It was a matter of chance that brought Leaha to SPAN. A doctor, a survivor herself, suggested that Leaha call SPAN. Like many survivors, Leaha faced what felt like insurmountable challenges: navigating the legal system; finding safe, affordable housing; supporting her children; healing from years of violence and trauma. She trusted SPAN with her story and her vulnerability, and with incredible determination and courage, Leaha began the long journey of rebuilding her life after abuse.
Leaha shares her remarkable story in a new short video now available on SPAN’s website. We have been fortunate to be part of Leaha and her children’s journey. They are beacons of hope for other survivors. And, they remind all of us that healing from abuse is only possible with the support and compassion of a community that sees and believes them. Thank you for being part of that community with SPAN.
In Peace,
Anne Tapp, Executive Director
