Homeless Contribution Tax Credit — Benefitting SPAN Supporters!

Colorado Homeless Contribution Income Tax Credit (HCTC) works to encourage Coloradoans to donate to approved non-profit organizations that assist individuals and families experiencing homelessness. This is an incentive for YOU, our donors, to make a certified contribution to SPAN! Colorado Taxpayers can claim 25% of their donation (monetary or value of in-kind) as state income tax credit if contributed to a qualified organization in a non-rural county.

What donations qualify for HCTC?

  • Any donation made to SPAN after January 1st, 2023, can qualify for the HCTC.
  • Monetary contributions must be equal to or greater than $100 (cumulative).
  • In-kind contributions of $5,000 or more must be evaluated by a third party.
  • In-kind contributions include property, services, stocks, bonds, or other intangible property.

How do I apply for HCTC if my donation qualifies?

Due to this being a NEW tax credit, SPAN will communicate directly with donors applying for HCTC. Together, we will fill out a HCTC form to be sent to the Division of Housing (DOH) within the Colorado Department of Local Affairs. If your contribution is approved, the DOH will send an encrypted email with the tax credit certificates to SPAN on a quarterly basis.

Alongside DOH, SPAN is working out the details of tracking qualifying HCTC donations. We will be sending out further information regarding this process, but if you would like to work on your application sooner, please contact: hr@safehousealliance.org.
