Alice

Alice entered SPAN’s Emergency Shelter Program in January 2014 and became a Transitional Housing client in April 2014. She moved in with three of her children. Her eldest has autism and was able to receive a supportive Individualized Education Program in their new school district. He is now thriving in school, and though he was once introverted, she reports he has opened up and was in the school’s holiday play. Her two daughters have also blossomed in their new settings now that their sense of safety has returned. Alice entered into the program with income from government assistance and is now working part-time in the food service industry. She is also working on getting her degree in business management transferred and validated in the U.S. She is also working on obtaining her U Visa to reside legally in the U.S. and will be applying for assistance with the Deferred Action for Parental Accountability program through former President Barack Obama’s executive action on immigration.
